EPA SmartWay
Syntek Global has received official word from the EPA’s Smartway Transportation Partnership that we have been accepted as a community member of this important transportation industry affiliation.
According to Mitch Greenberg, manager of the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Smartway Transportation Partnership, “Our goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by helping companies save fuel and money.”
The Agency works with the American Trucking Associations (ATA) to develop the SmartWay Transport Partnership. The collaboration has resulted in a market-based partnership that offers real value to all companies whose business involves ground freight – from “mom and pop” truck fleets, to giant retailers and carriers. EPA unveiled the SmartWay Transport Partnership with 52 Partners in 2004, but the program has grown tremendously since then. SmartWay Partner companies include logistics companies and Affiliates (organizations/associations interested in supporting the goals of the Partnership) in addition to carriers and shippers. Today, there are over 1000 Partners.
This EPA sponsored community is made up of transportation carriers, shippers, logistics companies and industry partners that have specific targets to accomplish several goals:
Reduce costs of fuel use
Achieve up to $3000 per truck per year savings after an initial payback period
Reduce maintenance costs of individual trucks and fleets
Promote retention of transportation industry drivers through driver incentive and training programs
Additional goals of the EPA Smartway Transportation Partnership include:
Enhancing the public reputation of community members for environmental stewardship
Achieve emissions reductions: 20-90% PM (particulate matter) reductions
Achieve annual reductions in CO2, and NOx emissions, toward the equivalent of 150 million barrels of oil.
